CCR Question #1 Draft

Our product uses conventions in order to represent the social group of young children and their transition into young adults. A few conventions that highlighted this are the camera shots of Caleb transitioning to Dawson, the use of incidental music, the props of the scooter, and the over-the-shoulder shot of Caleb looking down the 8-foot wall. To show the theme of time without having to specifically state it, we wanted to show the progression of skillsets by repeating the same action with two separate characters with different ages. This allowed for the viewer to realize that the child had worked hard to achieve his dreams by repeating the tricks over and over again. Our incidental music was for the purpose of adding to the extract as well as holding the viewer's attention. This added to the theme as well as the music builds in the same way our character builds in life. The scooter prop helps to add to the representation of social groups through showing little skill early on but as he spends more time with it, he begins to feel much more comfortable to push his previous limits. The over-the-shoulder shot of Caleb viewing the tall wall he wanted to learn how to drop in on added to the social group as well by showing his tiny body compared to the massive wall. It went to show that the great drop equaled great fear in accomplishing that trick. Our actors were focused on emphasizing the difference between each other by the primary difference: age. We tried our best to make that shine through each aspect of our film as mentioned above.
